A quarter-century. That’s how long Scarmazzi Homes has been turning blueprints into beautiful realities here in Pittsburgh. Today, we’re thrilled to announce our 25th anniversary, a milestone that fills us with pride and gratitude.
Back on December 8, 1999, Scarmazzi Homes was incorporated with a simple yet powerful vision: to build more than just homes, but thriving communities that are life-changing. And for the past 25 years, that’s exactly what we’ve done.
Our journey has been one of dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to quality. We’ve grown from a small, local builder to a trusted name in Pittsburgh real estate, and we owe it all to our loyal customers, our incredible team, and the vibrant Pittsburgh community that has embraced us.
Reaching this goal is not an individual achievement. “It revolves around the people we serve,” says Paul Scarmazzi, Owner. “We provide our customers with life-changing environments through the homes we construct and the communities we create. It’s also about building a team and watching the success and growth of our employees individually and as a collective organization.”
That sentiment is echoed throughout our company, highlighting the company’s strong sense of community and dedication to excellence. “The core values of Scarmazzi Homes have remained constant and that is the reason we have experienced so much growth. Our company always does the right thing – the right thing for their customers, their employees, and in the communities we develop,” says Celeste Lazzaro, a 20-year employee. “We’re proud to contribute to building the fabric of Pittsburgh, one home at a time.”
Born in 1999, Paul and Lisa Scarmazzi incorporated as Hawthorne Partners, Inc. (named after Paul’s grade school where they built their first house). In 2000, they acquired 74 lots in Moon Township to begin their first community – Villas of Parkwood Estates and became the first builder partner of Epcon Homes & Communities in the Pittsburgh Region.
In 2005, the company acquired 129 acres in Chartiers Township for what would ultimately become home to three separate communities and nearly 300 homes. In 2010, Scarmazzi Homes moved in its 250th resident and began building single family Courtyard Homes.
In 2012, the company decided to rebrand from Epcon Homes & Communities to Scarmazzi Homes to better reflect our local family-owned business. In 2018, Scarmazzi Homes partnered with Washington City Mission to begin the Give Back program providing donations for every home closed. To date, Scarmazzi Homes has provided over $40,000 in assistance.
2020 was a big year for Scarmazzi Homes. The company moved in its 500th resident in and acquired property in Canonsburg for what would become our headquarters and design center. And, in 2024, Scarmazzi Homes received the Pittsburgh Business Times Fast 50 Award as the 20th fastest growing company for the three-year period of 2021-2023. They were also named a Pittsburgh Business Times best places to work for the fifth time.
Over the past 25 years, Scarmazzi Homes has significantly impacted the Pittsburgh real estate landscape. We’ve built hundreds of homes, contributed to the growth of countless neighborhoods, and earned a reputation for quality, reliability, and sustainable building practices. But our commitment goes beyond bricks and mortar. We believe in giving back to the community that has supported us, actively participating in local charitable initiatives and fostering a sense of belonging.
